CCS has a new FIRST Robotics Team! For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
(FIRST) is a world-wide program founded by Dean Kamen back in 1992 which has over 400,000 K-12 students participating this year. His goal for this STEM-based educational concept was “to compete for the hearts and minds of kids with the excitement of the Super Bowl.” FIRST is not just focused on robotics, but builds STEM skills with application, as well as teamwork, leadership, creative problem solving and improving social and interpersonal interaction.
We are officially FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team 15893, and this year we are inviting interested CCS students in grades 8-12 to join us. Our first meeting will be on Saturday, December 8 from 3:00-5:00 PM in B205. As we slowly start the team, we will probably only be meeting once per week on Saturdays. Normally we would also be meeting an additional afternoon or evening during the week.
While there is no cost to join, it does take money to buy parts and build a robot. We would appreciate any donations be made to CCS designated “for the Robotics team” which may be tax-deductible for contributing parents.
